According to an article published by IFSEC Global many housing associations could be in breach of the Data Protection Act because of poor quality CCTV images. The article explores a report commissioned by Cloudview that looked at how and why CCTV is used by UK social housing providers.
The report found that many housing associations were concerned about image quality of their CCTV. However, with the Data Protection Act stating that data recorded should be of sufficient quality to identify suspected criminals, many providers could potentially be breaching the Act.
In addition, 60% of the respondents confessed to being aware that their CCTV systems were vulnerable to being hacked, but many were unaware of how to prevent this from happening.
