You might have noticed that we are huge fans of LED lighting, you just have to read through our blogs to see, but do you know why installing an LED lighting system is so fantastic?

Installing LED lights reduces your carbon footprint

Climate change is a global issue and installing an LED lighting system can have a positive impact on your carbon footprint.

Every kilowatt of electricity generates 830g of carbon equivalents, so using products which use less electricity means that less carbon will be released into the atmosphere.

On average LED lighting systems uses 40% less power than fluorescent solutions and 80% less than incandescent bulbs while producing the same amount of light. A standard incandescent light burns 50 watts of electricity per hour, while an LED light only uses 6 watts! This means that replacing one incandescent light with an LED alternative could save 6 tonnes of carbon emissions per year!

They have a very long life

An average LED light fitting lasts for 50,000 hours, which is a double win. Not only does it mean that they don’t have to be replaced so often, it also means that less bulbs will be manufactured, saving even more carbon emissions.

They reduce your energy bills

Because LED lighting systems need less energy, they can significantly reduce your energy bills. In some cases, this can be by up to 65%. For some of our clients this means that the cost of installation can be covered in energy savings in the first 2 years.

LED lights come with a 5-year warranty

We’re struggling to think of another lighting solution that’s guaranteed for 5 years. Aside from knowing that the lights you’ve installed won’t need any maintenance for at least 5 years, a warranty means that if one of them does break in that time you won’t have to pay to replace it.

They don’t contain mercury

Mercury is one of the key components that makes fluorescent tubes work, in fact, it’s the mercury combined with argon gas that creates their light. This means that they are difficult to dispose of and that, if they break, mercury will be released into the atmosphere. The amount of mercury in a compact fluorescent lightbulb could cover the tip of a ballpoint pen.

95% of an LED bulb is recyclable, LED lights don’t contain mercury and can be disposed of normally.

LEDs can enhance your working environment

Imagine no more flickering lights, no more glare on your computer screen. That dream can become a reality with LED lighting. A recent office installation client also reported back that staff were suffering fewer headaches and their offices appeared more welcoming.

There are intelligent lighting options including sensors and timers

An intelligent lighting system can include sensors and timers that turn off lights when they aren’t needed. Installing these in bathrooms and kitchen areas, means that those areas can be lit when in use and can go into energy saving mode when there’s no movement.
